This is the theme every page starts on, which is a decision rather than an accident. Blocks sit on the ground as white cards with a fourteen pixel corner and a two part shadow, so the page reads as a stack of things you can tap rather than as a wall of text with links in it.
The ground is a warm off white rather than pure white, and the type is a near black with brown in it. That pairing is what keeps a long page comfortable to read on a phone in daylight, and it is why the accent violet reads as bright without having to shout.
It is the theme to pick when the page is doing the work and you would rather not have a look competing with it. Everything else here is a stronger opinion.

- Is Soft Depth the default?
- Yes. A page with no theme chosen renders as Soft Depth, and the Creator starter keeps it.
- Can I change the colours?
- Yes. Set your own page colour and ink and the preset keeps its chrome: the cards, the corner, and the shadow stay, your palette replaces its own.
- Does it work with a pattern background?
- Yes. A pattern paints its own ground and the pattern ink is held close to it, so the cards keep floating and the type keeps reading.
